ABOUT THE COURSE
This non-degree-seeking training course will provide participants with the theoretical and practical skills necessary to perform a variety of blood collection methods using proper technique and precautions including vacuum collection devices, syringes, capillary skin punctures, butterfly needles and blood-culture specimen collection on adults, children and infants. Through lecture and laboratory experiences, students will receive training in infection, prevention, proper patient identification, proper labeling of specimens, and quality assurance. Students will learn specimen handling, processing and accessioning
Upon successful completion of this training course, students will qualify to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) Exam. The Certification Exam is included in the cost and scope of the training course.
The goal of this course is to provide students with knowledge and skills to perform correct and accurate collection of blood for diagnostic purposes in various clinical settings.
Phlebotomy Certification Exam in Florida
By law in the state of Florida, a phlebotomist technician must be state certified or will not be allowed to work. This certification is for a two-year period and can be renewed upon the presentation of proof of the required hours of continuing education.
Florida is one of the four states with strict regulations for issuance of the required certificate. The Florida Phlebotomy Regulations specific requirements for certification are:
- High School graduate transcripts or GED
- Proof of 40 hours of practical training
- Proof of 50 venipunctures and 10 skin punctures.
