Course Description:

This non-degree-seeking training course will provide participants with the theoretical and practical skills necessary to perform a variety of blood collection methods using proper technique and precautions including vacuum collection devices, syringes, capillary skin punctures, butterfly needles and blood-culture specimen collection on adults, children and infants. Through lecture and laboratory experiences, students will receive training in infection, prevention, proper patient identification, proper labeling of specimens, and quality assurance. Students will be taught specimen handling, processing and accessioning.

Upon successful completion of the training course the student will qualify to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) Exam. The Certification Exam is included in the cost and scope of the training course.

The goal of this course is to provide students with knowledge and skill to perform correct and accurate collection of blood for diagnostic purposes in various clinical settings.
